This video is so enjoyable to watch. It speaks volumes about the power of standing out from the norm and doing what you want without worrying about being judged by others. The quote “…dance as though no one is watching…” describes this scene perfectly. It takes place at the Sasquatch Music Festival during the song Unstoppable by Santigold.
We put on many silent disco events and it’s always a fun social experiment on the dancefloor – and not only because it’s a ‘silent event’. Rather, the dynamics of the energy on the dance floor is just as interesting. A few energetic people genuinely having a great time dancing always fills the floor every time. Positive energy is contagious – and that’s truly amazing. Whether you want to share your positive energy with others or if you need a little positive energy to be rubbed off on you, all it takes is one person to start dancing with passion and genuine enjoyment.
Given the nature of silent disco events, those without headphones who look onto a dance floor packed with people dancing to what appears to be silence generate some hesitancy about joining in. In this case, the onlookers are not thinking about the fun the could have by joining in but rather how silly they might look to others looking in. Much to our amusement, those who do let go of their inhibitions a bit and give silent disco a chance always leave with a smile on their face. Every time, without fail, skeptics are converted – and we love that.
Don’t be afraid to stand out. And support those who put themselves on the line to stand out. You might just start a dance party.
What was your first silent disco experience like? We’d love to hear about it in the comments below.
From Dubstep babies to old timer DJs like the ones in the videos below, they are true testaments to the power – and agelessness – of music. Fortunately, the silent disco concept allows for any and all genres of music to be broad-casted to guests of all ages. Enjoy these clips d-_-b
And if you haven’t seen Young At Heart yet, you should. Here’s the trailer:
DJ Nite Train… Wow… Where to even begin?
Typically sporting an array of eclectic ex-neo-rave gear from the future’s past – and high socks, Boston’s Legend DJ Nite Train makes his frequent appearances on the Orange Line. Though some may see DJ Nite Train as… a bit out of the ordinary, we think he’s extraordinary in every sense of the word and commend him for truly living out his undeniable passion for music, taking it to the streets and most importantly, putting smiles on people’s faces on a daily basis. His real name is Jerry Holloman, born in Boston in 1964. His passions are riding trains and roller coasters. Holloman’s dream is to someday take a cross-country train trip.
DJ Nite Train, whether you know it or not, you embody silent disco and you are, unknowingly, Boston’s Unintentional Silent Disco Evangelist.

DJ Nite Train has made numerous appearances online over the years – here are some of our favorites:
Next time you see DJ Nite Train, give him a high five.
Don’t Ever Stop, Jerry!
Dubstep just hits you so right sometimes! Even babies can’t get enough. Here are a couple of our favorite Dubstep Baby videos:
And of course, Fred the Raver!
Our silent disco headsets have nice bass to drive those Dubstep beats to your soul but silent disco isn’t limited to Dubstep or electronic music genres. In fact, it’s not even limited to music! It’s also ideal for silent film screenings, silent comedy and voice and even multi-language support!
Atticgeddon (Live Promo Mix March 2010) by djdomonique
It took place in a quiet neighborhood in Boston and raged strong until the wee hours of the night without once disturbing the peace or waking the neighbors. DJs Voltran, Domonique & Edukation absolutely tore it up in the attic at this silent disco house party appropriately named, Attic Attack! Even VJ v.Ka$h rolled through and added his mesmerizing visualizations to the attic ceiling. If you’re not already listening to some of Domonique’s Atticgeddon set from that night in the player above, brace yourself and hit PLAY already!
DJ Voltran, DJ Domonique & DJ Edukation silently rock the house!

The the music blasted through headsets of kids in the attic, through the apartment one level below and even out on the back porch. Attic Attack brought SSSS to their house party and SSSS brings the world of noise complaints to an end.
No amplified noise, no bulky PA systems, no aggravated neighbors and no problems! And, let police worry about more important things, like this officer from Providence, RI:

Payne Mansion, the setting of Yelp's Silent Storm
Last night we partnered with Yelp to bring silent disco to the Yelp Elite and other Yelpers for one night of the Yelp Holiday Hangover series. People mingled, enjoyed drinks, engaged with vendors without the blasting music of traditional PA systems and the Payne Mansion got its first dose of the high-energy dance party that is silent disco for the first time – and we hope not the last.
Since the event was dubbed, “Yelp’s Silent Storm“, SKYY Vodka prepared specially crafted and refreshingly appropriate drinks: the pineapple infused Tropical Storm and the classic Dark & Stormy. Widmer Brothers beers and Long Meadow Ranch wines also flowed freely at this open bar event. Luna Park and pop-up restaurant EAT Restaurant were serving delicious savory hors d’oeuvres, Sweet Constructions and Miz Lynn’s Pies had your sweet tooth covered and Fiji Water hydrated the night. There were hair stylists creating some real funky up-do’s and even a roaming magician. What a great mix of vendors, brands and Yelpers!
DJ Sonny Phono started the night off with some disco / funk and grooved into high-energy top 40 jams filling the dance floor and increasing heart rates proportionate to the surge of liquid courage as the evening progressed. The Soul Con Dance Company put on two awesome performances throughout the night, opening a big dance circle of people around them watching and cheering on their tightly choreographed moves. Cressie Mae Hoops was also in the house, hula-hooping through the night and adding some great energy and flavor to this dance-themed evening.

Sonny Phono’s idea of a soul train during a disco flashback track was, well… BRILLIANT! Anyone fortunate enough to experience it is now forever in the record books for being part of the first silent soul train in the world! Good on ya.
We had a great time being part of Yelp’s Holiday Hangover series and can’t wait to see everyone on the dance floor again soon.

Photos from this event will be posted on the Silent Disco San Francisco Facebook page.
